Home    Hurricane Katrina Relief

The Central Church of Christ is a Bible believing church that exalts Jesus Christ as Lord. Our worship is simple, but reverent. We invite all who would like to be our guests, and we encourage your participation as we worship the Lord. Like most Christian churches, when we meet we sing praises to God, pray, give to the local and worldwide missions, and hear a message from a minister. Unlike many churches, we sing without musical accompaniment. Another unusual feature of the churches of Christ is that we commune weekly, observing the Lord's supper every Sunday.

We have a heritage in the American Restoration Movement which sought to draw all men away from humanly devised creeds and divisions into the unity of faith in Jesus Christ. Churches of Christ are autonomous, meaning that there is no authority linking the congregations. Each congregation strives to follow God's will fully, with no board, convention, or person outside of the congregation wielding any authority over the local church. Churches of Christ do maintain cohesion because of their common goals and through various periodicals, college lectureships, and of course the Internet. Many churches of Christ and Independent Christian Churches have these same goals, teach the same thing about how to be saved, and spring from the same religious heritage. If you are interested in learning more about the Restoration Movement, you can do so HERE or HERE or even HERE. These sites have further links for your study.

But what about today? Who is the Central Church of Christ? We are a family of believers in Pascagoula, Mississippi who have adopted a slogan suggested by visiting minister Marvin Phillips in 2005: We Want To Be The Best Friend This Community Has Ever Had. Ever since Hurricane Katrina made landfall in August 2005, we have renewed our efforts to be a blessing to our community. More than eight months later we were still involved in hurricane relief efforts. We want to be a blessing to everyone in Jackson County, Mississippi. The greatest way we know to be a blessing to someone else is to share with them the beautiful Gospel ("Good News") of Jesus Christ and how He died to save us from our sins. We believe that one must accept the 'bad news' that we are sinners, lost without hope. Then, because of Jesus, salvation is available to those who believe. Repentance is the word that indicates we are turning our lives around to follow the Lord. Baptism is an essential part of the journey, marking the time when God erases our sins and gives us new life - including taking residence in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. The new Christian will then spend the rest of his or her life as a student of the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ. The new Christian is also a part of the local church, with nothing more to be done to be a part of God's family - new birth is sufficient!

Thanks for reading about the Central Church of Christ. This is only a brief introduction. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to write to me (the minister) or to come by and visit a Sunday morning worship service soon!
